Job Description: This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of operating spot generators, standby generators, portable generators, and light carts. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.
• Operate, maintain, and repair operating spot generators, standby generators, portable generators, and light carts.
• Be familiar with and use the appropriate supply systems, inventory control procedures, and hazardous material/waste management procedures.
• Complete relevant records and assists with reports.
• Perform maintenance on coolant, oil, and fuel systems.
• Respond to 24-hour emergency call outs if required.
• Minimum Acceptable Experience Level: Four (4) years’ experience in electrical power generation equipment maintenance.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
o Deep understanding of a variety of diesel generator engine models.
o Strong understanding of power generation, engine maintenance, and minor overhauls; operational safety, structured generator, and component engine maintenance programs.
o Understanding of manufacturers’ technical publications and wiring diagrams, technique of operating and maintaining internal combustion engines; power plant generators use of multipurpose test equipment; safety rules and practices, to include environmental policies.
o Principles of operating 2000 KVA and smaller Diesel Engines to include: Caterpillar, Cummins, Mitsubishi, and FG Wilson Power Generation Engines.
o Understand and interpret technical documents.
o Effectively troubleshoot engine malfunctions.
o Work independently in the absence of supervision.
o Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
o Lift heavy objects, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, walk, and stand for prolonged periods of time.
o Understand the basic principle of Combustion Engines.
o Can perform simple calculations, both mathematical and electrical.
